MinnPost – Dave Beal: Anti-deficit crusader David Walker warns of ripple effect on states from nation’s growing debt.

Click here to watch his testimony before the Minnesota Senate Finance Committee yesterday.  David Walker was the Comptroller of the U.S.  The chief accountability officer for the federal government.  He does a great job of discussing, without spin,  the challenges that lie ahead.

Hopefully the general population will realize the impact of the statement below as many blame the present situation on Obama.

“Walker said Obama was dealt a bad hand: soaring deficits caused by fighting two wars without taxing for them, significant tax cuts and domestic spending increases, and a deep recession that sharply reduced tax revenue.”

When will we realize we all must change our ways? We will have to wait and see if the Federal level is capable of changing and we do have the power to see that our local level of government does change in its spending habits. Less tax revenue coming in than expendatures makes for the perfect storm. Spending on infrastructure now will save costs later and create the needed jobs, yet we must prioritize projects by necessity.

This may be a challenge with our present city staff and council.
