Salaries, benefits, and job security in the public sector are the envy of those in the private sector. With unemployment in the public sector at 0.0%, the private sector is not in the mood to bail out public employee pensions or suffer tax increases to save public jobs.
This will be an issue in November on local and state levels. Is this a third rail that no politician wants to touch? Will Republican candidates dare to take on Education Minnesota and other public employee unions, given the size and influence of public employee unions? We have now reached a point in the United States where public employee union membership exceeds that of private employee unions.
